Charity Plant Sale Proves So Popular

‘The annual charity plant sale organised by  the Barlborough Babes’ running and walking group raised £1170 for a number of worthy causes.

In addition to bedding and pot plants for sale at the event which was held at Barlborough Little School,  there was a  cake stall and the good weather allowed people to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a piece of cake outside in the lovely morning sunshine. A raffle was also held with prizes kindly donated by Dobbies’ Garden Centre in Barlborough and Dales Nursery in Whitwell Common. Organiser Sharon Bache said “This was our fourth annual plant sale and we were overwhelmed by how many people from both the village and elsewhere supported the event, and made it such huge success. With the sun shining it just added to an enjoyable day for everyone, while raising a significant amount of money for charity.”

Each year, the Barlborough Babes take part in the Great North Run, and as well as raising money for charity through individual sponsorship by families and friends, they hold a number of events locally with all proceeds going to their chosen charities. This year, they have chosen the following causes to support: Parkinsons Disease Society, National Association of Chron’s & Colitis, British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK as well as Stroke, Diabetes and other local groups.

Their next event is a trip to the famous St Leger meeting at Doncaster racecourse on Saturday 12th September. Anyone interested should contact Joanne on 01246 570293 for more details. Any women interested in joining the Barlborough Babes in one of their informal running or walking groups each week should contact Sharon on 07989 730505.
